John A. Ems

John A. Ems, CPA, is a tax supervisor with over 5 years of experience in taxation of businesses, not-for-profits, individuals, trusts, and estates.  Mr. Ems specializes in providing strategies to small-businesses and their owners to maximize potential tax savings, including with income tax preparation and planning, audit representation, and business entity formation.  His clients operate in many different industries including real estate, contracting, insurance and financial services, and advertising.

As a full-service CPA firm, Schowalter & Jabouri, P.C. strives to provide a variety of professional services to clients.  This is reflected in Mr. Ems’s experience and responsibilities, which include income tax preparation and planning as key areas of focus.  Other duties include payroll and sales tax issues, business entity formation and business start-up consulting, financial statement preparation, compilation, and review, and research related to specific tax issues and projects.

Prior to employment at Schowalter & Jabouri, P.C., Mr. Ems was an accounting consultant at a local CPA firm where he provided tax and accounting services for closely-held businesses and individuals.  He also worked as support in expert witness testimonies and litigation support as well as business valuation engagements.  After five years, he joined Schowalter & Jabouri, P.C. as a tax supervisor.

Mr. Ems is a graduate of the University of Missouri – Columbia with a Masters and Bachelors of Accounting.  He earned his CPA certification in 2018 shortly after graduation.  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Missouri Society of CPAs (MOCPA).
